Teletherapy is live therapy through a video connection. You receive the same live, face-to-face interaction and treatment from your therapist as you would in person, it's just done through a phone or laptop.
Teletherapy provides a flexible and accessible alternative to in-person mental health care and can be a good fit for many individuals. Teletherapy is often an ideal choice for families with busy schedules, as it eliminates the need for driving to/from a clinician's office. For many adolescents and young adults familiar with accessing a wide range of services on their phones or other devices and unfamiliar with talking in-person with an unknown adult, teletherapy may provide a more accessible and comfortable way to initiate mental health care. Research indicates that mental health outcomes for most common symptoms (including depression and anxiety) are as good via teletherapy as via traditional in-person therapy.
We are typically able to schedule an initial, introductory consultation within a few days of hearing from you.
Therapists will ask you questions about your needs and goals for therapy and answer any questions you may have about their experience, education and billing rates. UpLift does not charge for this initial introductory conversation. Independent therapists listed on our site will have their own practices but typically there is no cost for a first phone call.
UpLift charges $90 for your initial 50-minute session. If the client is a minor, this call will include the client's parents/guardians as well. After this session, your UpLift therapist will send you a customized treatment plan that will detail ongoing expenses. Independent therapists listed on our site set their own rates which typically range from about $120 to $180 per hour.
UpLift does not contract directly with insurance, but our therapists will happily provide you with an itemized statement for out of network reimbursement. Some of the independent therapists listed on our site do accept insurance. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn which therapists may accept your insurance.
"Evidence-based assessment and treatment" means we take what the science tells us about what causes mental health problems and what works to treat mental health problems, and then apply that scientific information to develop a treatment plan for each client. We use scientifically-validated measures and a clinical interview to collect information on your symptoms (assessment) and use strategies in therapy that have been shown to be effective in scientific studies (treatment).
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown in numerous studies to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and other common mental health problems. This approach emphasizes that negative thinking patterns and maladaptive behaviors may cause and maintain mental health problems. Thus, CBT works to help people change those negative thinking patterns and replace unhelpful behaviors with more adaptive ones.
There are several components to evaluating whether a therapist is a good fit. First and foremost, the therapist should make you feel heard, validated, and supported. Second, you should feel that the therapist can work with you to build a relationship based on mutual respect and shared goals for your therapy. Third, you should feel confident that the therapist has the skills and training to work with you effectively.
All of the therapists listed on our site are qualified to provide mental health care. The different abbreviations after provider’s names designate the training and licensure that each provider holds. The main differences between these licenses are related to the length and type of the training that the provider has.
What matters most is the provider’s fit with you!
